Be Cool, Get REPs Certified

By Chris

As part of my Personal Trainer Diploma with Future Fit, they provide you with your first years memberships to REPs (Register of Exercise Professionals).

What is REPs?

REPS is an independent public Register which recognises the qualifications and expertise of health enhancing exercise instructors in the UK. One of our key functions is to provide a system of regulation for instructors and trainers to ensure that they meet the health and fitness industry’s agreed national occupational standards.

What’s the importance of REPs?

  • Provide clarification and recognition of qualifications that meet agreed national standards available in the fitness industry
  • Provide confidence in the quality of services provided by fitness professionals
  • To safeguard the livelihood of professionals who have invested time and money into their education
  •  To protect the public from individuals who do not meet nationally recognised standards

Basically, anyone can call themselves a Personal Trainer and start training people, no qualifications are actually needed. So any Tom, Dick and Harry can start playing around with peoples health’s and bodies, which isn’t very safe.

So now, a lot, if not, all gyms will only employ REPs certificated Instructors, Personal Trainers etc and its highly recommended that if your going to Train with a Personal Trainer outside the Gym, to make sure they are REPs certified.

You can find out more information by visiting the REPs website.

After completing my Gym Instructor course the other month, Future Fit applied for my Membership and I recently received this through the post the other day, YAY. Although strangely I only got a Level One membership (there are four levels altogether), I should be level 2, as I have passed my Gym Instructor course, which qualifies your for Level 2. So I had to send my Certificates to them and they have to upgrade my membership. Pretty lazy on Future Fits behalf, as they could have just applied for Level 2 membership for me.

Upon completely my Diploma I will be Level 3 Certificated, and to get to level 4, you have to do extra courses, which I will do in a few years.

So if your thinking of becoming a Personal Trainer, make sure you get REPs Certified, or face a very hard job getting any work.

If you do become REPs Certified, you get the right to display this cool badge, which is worth the membership alone!!:

Hey Ben, who you doing your training with?

I started my course in June, and should have it finished in March/April next year.

I’ve only had one exam, which was a multiply choice, which wasnt that bad – although i failed it on my first attemp. lol

The Gym Instructor Assesment was really nervy, but pretty easy in the end.

Good luck with your course. Let me know how you get on.

hey chris, sorry i should of been more specific with who i’m taking my course with. I’m taking it with future fit, i shopped around but they are the best i can find. I’m gonna take the advanced personal trainer but over a 2year period. I’m really crap with exams but i’m hoping my sport science knowledge will come in handy although i done that at college nearly 4years ago lol.

i’ve read most of your blogs and it seems your progress is of quite some standard especially as you haven’t had previous experience with the functions of the body and so forth.

I’ll be letting you know how i get on and if you have any tips or positive feedback to any of the modules, i’m all ears lol

Hi Ben, If you have experiance with Sport Science, you should breeze through the Anatomy course pretty quickly, its actually not that hard, and pretty interesting to learn about.

Good choice with Future Fit, they have been super so far. good support, and the instructors on the courses really know there stuff, its hard not to learn from them.

    Thanks for reading.

    Any questions, just ask.

  5. This truly is an amazing article! May you please write anything else about that? I learned a lot new from here and be going to visit the blog again. All the best!
